Don’t Starve is a wilderness survival game developed by Klei Entertainment. It takes place in a strange unexplored world filled with dangers and surprises.
My Work
When redesigning for a game you want to focus on getting the vibe right across both music and sound. Don’t Starve has a unique art-style; it appears very hand-drawn and gothic with a distinct spooky “Tim Burton-ish” feel.
For the main menu theme I relied on a combination of weird synths, rennnaisance instruments, strings and bells to set the tone. For the sound I used mostly samples of recorded material to give a natural and organic feel with lots of texture – metal, wood, gears and various mechanics were used and an ambience was put together from recordings I made in forests and fields.
